Family Military Leave

An employee who is a spouse or parent of a person called to military service may be eligible for unpaid leave during the time federal or state deployment orders are in effect for the employee's spouse or child.


Eligibility

An employee who is a spouse or parent of a person called to military service lasting longer than 30 days may be granted up to 30 days unpaid leave during the time federal or state deployment orders are in effect for the employee's spouse or child. To be eligible, employees must have been employed for at least 12 months and worked 1,250 hours in the preceding 12 months. Additionally, employees must exhaust all accrued vacation, personal, compensatory, and any other leave, EXCEPT for sick and disability leave prior to requesting Family Military Leave.


Approval

Employee must provide certification from the proper military authority as documentation when requesting leave. If leave will be longer than 5 days, the employee should give at least 14 days notice. If leave will be less than 5 days, the employee should give advance notice as is practicable.

Length of Leave

Family Military Leave allows for up to 30 days of unpaid leave. Leave time is for 30 days; holidays do not extend the allowable leave maximum.
