Faculty and Other Academic Positions

Faculty

Faculty members fulfill the teaching, research, and public service mission requirements of the University and pursue career paths within their professional disciplines. Examples of Faculty titles are Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor. Appointments for faculty must be tenure or tenure-track. Adjunct, clinical, research, teaching, or visiting professors do not receive tenured appointments.

Other Academics

Other Academics, which include Clinical Associate, Instructor, Lecturer, Research Associate, and Teaching Associate, Post Doctoral associates, Residents, and Graduate Employees, help fulfill the teaching, research, and public service mission requirements of the University and pursue career paths within their professional disciplines. These positions are non-tenured/non-tenure-track.

Academic titles can be held by individuals who are also preparing to receive degrees from the University. In addition, Other Academic titles sometimes resemble faculty titles. However, such academic positions either are for less than 51% time, or they include modifiers such as adjunct, clinical, research, teaching, or visiting.
