Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, record keeping, and child labor standards affecting full-time and part-time workers in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments.

In September 2019, the Department of Labor (DOL) issued revised regulations for exemption from FLSA. The revised rule is effective January 1, 2020. The University of Illinois System is in the process of implementing the new rules. Impacted colleges, departments, units, and employees will be contacted by their respective system or university human resources office in December.
