Benefits Adjustments

Typically, when new employees elect their benefits or employees make changes to their insurance coverages, such as adding or dropping a dependent, there is a lag between that event and the first premium deduction from payroll. University Payroll and Benefits has traditionally managed the process of either collecting any premiums due or refunding overpaid premiums.  Historically, normal processing required one to two months before a premium adjustment appeared on an employee’s paycheck.

The premium adjustment process was temporarily suspended in December 2016 as the University worked through the State of Illinois’ requirement to move to the MyBenefits Marketplace, which is managed by Morneau Shepell, the State’s contracted provider.  The insurance premium adjustment process is now being reactivated for all employees who had an insurance change in which a premium adjustment is needed, but has not yet been settled.
