Sabbatical leave applications should be submitted for faculty members in the sixth year of the probationary period only if the college forwards recommendations for promotion and indefinite tenure for those faculty members.

• Applications for faculty members in the sixth year of the probationary period will not be forwarded by the Provost for final approval by the Board of Trustees until a positive recommendation on tenure is made.
• A sabbatical application may also be forwarded from a faculty member in years three, four, or five of the probationary period. Because of the tenuous nature of these staff members' appointments, the Provost requests that the dean submit with each such application a statement indicating the likelihood that the faculty member will achieve promotion to associate professor and/or indefinite tenure.
